1.How often must a kitchen range hood be cleaned?
Well this depends on how much you actually use your stove. If you cook daily or a couple of times a day, a monthly clean of the inside and outside of the hood and the filter is required. For those that are more sporadic in their cooking, seasonal cleaning will be sufficient. As a general rule of thumb, each time you prepare a big holiday feast, the filter must be cleaned even if the rest of the hood is not.
Some sure signs that your range hood needs to be cleaned include: having smoke in the kitchen even if the hood is on. If the motor is abnormally loud, it is a sign that the motor is working too hard and needs to be cleaned.
2.The supplies that you will need
You will need the following:
- some baking soda,
- degreasing dishwashing liquid,
- boiling water
- a soft nylon bristled brush
- spray on degreaser
- paper towels or cleaning rugs
3.How to clean a range hood and filter
You can start by cleaning the interior and exterior surfaces of your range hood. The hood is always close to the cooktop and there are plenty of occasions when food can get splashed inside or outside the range hood. To clean the inside, apply the degreaser and leave it on for at least 15 minutes. You can use paper towels to wipe away the dirt and grime that would have been loosened. If there are any stubborn bits, you can use a soft bristled brush to gently pry them away. Finally, you can use a damp clean cloth to rinse the inside.
Cleaning the outside differs depending on the finish of your range hood. You can refer to the user manual that you got when you purchased it to see how best you can clean the outside of your range hood. To clean the filter, you need to remove it from the hood, fill the sink with boiling water, and add three teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and half a cup of baking soda. Soak the filter in the boiling water for about 10 minutes then scrub the filter with a scrub brush and rinse before drying it.
